Southwick Massachusetts. Un solo nome, Eli Tomac! (1°+1°) Per quanto concerne il protagonista assoluto della prova più impegnativa del torneo outdoor americano, ben poco da commentare. L’ufficiale Kawasaki è stato superlativo e sulla sabbia di Southwick si è imposto con agilità sul resto della concorrenza in ambedue le frazioni segnando il giro veloce ogni volta che è sceso in pista. Il suo vantaggio in classifica è salito a +19 punti su Baggett è solo eventi straordinari impediranno a Tomac una solitaria fuga verso il titolo 2017. Gara complicata per Blake Baggett (2°+2°) che, nonostante l’evidente gap fisico (infortunio al pollice), ha combattuto fino a quando le forze lo hanno sostenuto. Ha concluso due volte alle spalle di Tomac perdendo però il confronto diretto in ambedue le heat. Ultimo gradino del podio dell’assoluta per Dean Wilson (6°+3°) alla migliore prestazione stagionale che ha totalizzato il medesimo score di Cooper Webb. Problemi per Marvin Musquin (4°+38°) che aspirava ad altra prestazione con l’infortunio al ginocchio in netta ripresa. La caduta in partenza nella prima manche lo ha costretto ad una lunga rimonta terminata in quarta posizione. In gara due la partenza in testa lo ha portato ad incrociare il manubrio nel corso del sesto passaggio, con il rimontante Tomac. Il ritmo imposto da Eli dopo il sorpasso lo ha costretto all’errore che lo ha spedito fuori pista costringendolo al ritiro per guasto tecnico.
La Tabella Rossa saldamente nelle mani di Eli Tomac che conduce con un vantaggio di 19 punti su Blake Baggett.
Blake Baggett: “I rode the best I could today with the injury thumb and salvaged points. This isn’t my favorite race of the year, so I was just looking forward to getting through it. I’m going to get an MRI on Monday and we will have to see what the results are. Worst case we will have to get a small operation and hope that it heals in time for Millville.”
Eli Tomac: “We only have one really good sand track of the year and that is here at Southwick. It seems most guys either love or hate this track, but I’m a big fan of it and enjoy coming here. I think we’re in a good spot points wise. We’re not really fighting anything on the motorcycle and it’s nice to head into the off weekend on a good note.”

Anche il profilo del campionato della classe 250 è ormai ben delineato. Ogni fine settimana cambiano i contendenti ma la costante fissa al comando rimane sempre lui, Zach Osborne. Troppo forte sia tecnicamente che psicologicamente il forte pilota Husqvarna per poter essere attaccato in questo scorcio di stagione. A Southwick ha conquistato ancora l’assoluta (2°+1°) incamerando il medesimo punteggio del francese Dylan Ferrandis (1°+2°) autore di una stagione da rookie strepitosa. Ultimo gradino del podio per il meno talentuoso dei due fratelli Martin, Alex (3°+3°) che potrebbe tentare l’ultimo assalto alla leadership, tra 15 giorni sulla pista di casa a Millville.
Tabella Rossa sempre nelle mani di Zach Osborne che conduce la classifica generale con 45 punti di scarto su Alex Martin.
Alex Martin: “I’m generally pretty good in practice, but I just kind of felt like my bike setup was off all day. Despite searching for a comfortable setting, I was able to get off to two great starts and that is really key on a track like this that can sometimes funnel down to just one line. I knew that it was going to be a long and hot day, so I tried to pace myself a little bit, but the rain saved us and helped cool it down in the second moto. I’m excited to go racing at my home track in Millville after the break.”
Zach Osborne: “The first rain wasn’t so bad. It kind of just killed the dust and kind of made the top a little bit wet. There were a couple of hard spots though that got pretty slick. But then the second rain it started to change pretty quick. It just started to get kind of slushy and some longer rut, groove type deals that you really had to be careful with. So, it got a little tricky there at the end.”
